"It may seem unusual for an MD to work with a chiropractor, but it happens all the time.  In the world of professional sports, virtually every team doctor works closely with the team trainer; the trainer basically does chiropractic treatments all the time.  But when the team doctors go back to their public practices, they can't send their own patients back to the team trainer, so they tend to skip this step and try rehab, or go straight to medications, injections, or surgery recommendations.
 
However, a good chiropractor is pure gold.  Dr. Stutz helps with alignment issues, as well as other mechanical problems underlying many injuries.  He can help a stiff segment of the neck or lower back, or identify tight hamstrings as a problem with certain low backaches.  He can also check for leg lenght, and review the wear on shoes to see if orthotics could be corrective where appropriate.  Many of our patients start off with Dr. Hanson's acupuncture to relieve muscle spasms, which then allows Dr. Stutz a better opportunity to correct underlying alignment problems.  Often patients only need to see him once a month, and many will do so long after they need acupuncture. 
 
Dr. Stutz is very astute in his diagnostics, and needs very few treatments to get a patient back to full recovery.  He is a welcome addition to our team, and his "hallway consultations" mimic the ones Dr. Hanson has in the locker rooms of the professional teams he treats."

Brian T. Stutz, D.C., C.PED.  joined our team in the fall of 2003. He has an extensive background in lower extremity biomechanics, sports rehabilitation, and ergonomic assessment. As a chiropractic physician, Dr. Stutz specializes in the treatment of pain in the spine and extremities. He customizes his treatments for each patient, drawing from a list of gentle and effective therapies. When indicated, treatments may include; joint manipulation, customized rehabilitation programs, physical therapy techniques and modalities, gait analysis, and a variety of manual therapy techniques.

Dr. Stutz is also a fellow of the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. Although he does not directly practice the art of acupuncture, his knowledge of traditional Chinese acupuncture and anatomical acupressure trigger points helps him work closely with Dr. Peter Hanson, in instances when a patient is receiving care from both physicians.

Dr. Stutz has a passion for treating lower extremity pain. As a specialist in custom foot orthotic design, he has helped dozens of patients avoid hip, knee, and foot surgery. Dr. Stutz has designed orthotics for members of the Colorado Avalanche and the US Ski team.
